Tryggingamiðlun Íslands ehf (hereafter “TMI”) was founded in June 1997 by Karl Jónsson and is one of the largest and longest standing insurance agencies in Iceland. As of January 2010 the current owners, Friðbert Elí Friðbertsson and Gísli Ölvir Böðvarsson acquired the business after two years of being co-owners. TMI is regulated by Fjármálaeftirlit Seðlabanka Íslands (The Financial Supervisory Authority of the Central Bank of Iceland).

TMI started its business offering saving products and insurance policies from the UK based companies Friends Provident International and AXA Sun Life, and are today still servicing over 20,000 policies from these companies. TMI has also from establishment been in collaboration with Baloise in Luxemburg (previously named Winterthur) and are still servicing live policies.

TMI’s main business partners today on the domestic market are Allianz, Vörður, AXIS Capital and  Tryg Denmark. Through these TMI is able to offer to individuals and SME’s on the Icelandic market the full scope of insurances as well as saving products and pension plans. Additionally, TMI has been Coverholder at Lloyd´s since July 2017 and are able to offer various insurances through the Lloyd’s market.

TMI acts as a claim adjuster for insurance policies sold by hardware stores on behalf of the Danish company Tryg, which offers supplementary insurance coverage for various electronic devices.

TMI’s involvement in insurance markets outside Iceland has increased over the past several years. Today, TMI collaborates with several international insurance brokerage firms and, through these collaborations, is able to assist clients both domestically and across Europe.

TMI has been recognised as one of Iceland‘s strongest companies by Creditinfo every year since 2011. Creditinfo has been analyzing the operation of Icelandic companies and recognizing outstanding companies for their achievements. Each year around 2% of Icelandic companies fulfill the strict requirements of Creditinfo.

TMI has in place a qualified sales team who have regular re-training sessions to ensure they are up to date on insurance, savings and pension developments in the market. TMI have highly skilled office staff that take care of customer service and back-office work for our distributors.
